Quintet
Biography - Repertoar
- Diskography
In the season 2002/2003, the
Slovenian Brass Quintet celebrated an important anniversary - 30th anniversary
of its artistic activities.
The Ensemble has performed on both regional and foreign concert scenes
since 1972, the year when it was established by five excellent Slovenian
musicians, soloists, members of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and
distinguished music teachers.
After three decades of active performances, the Slovenian Brass Quintet
is regarded as one of the most outstanding chamber ensembles in Slovenia.
In 1981, the ensemble received the Prešeren Award for its exceptional
artistic achievements and in 1987 won the Župančič Award. Their success
at the international contest »Maurice André« in Paris and numerous concerts
and tours abroad (Austria, Italy, Germany, Spain, Russia, USA etc.) confirm
their quality.
The oeuvre of the Slovenian Brass Quintet is comprised of compositions
ranging from renaissance, baroque and romanticism to ragtime and modern
works. Their contribution to Slovenian creative powers is of great importance
since the ensemble gave the first performance of numerous works made especially
for them by composers such as U. Krek, P. Ramovš, I. Petrič, D. Škerl,
P. Mihelčič, J. Privšek and others.
In the last several years, the Slovenian Brass Quintet collaborated with
cognate ensembles, e.g. the English Brass Ensemble from London, HoViHoLoHoff
Brass Quintet from Austria, Jazz Brass Quintet from Ljubljana, Zagreb
Saxophone Quartet and the Slovenian and Maribor Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Quintet has so far recorded two LPs, 2 CDs (the first one in collaboration
with The English Brass Ensemble) and has been recording for several radio
and TV programmes.
